Statement on the Burmese Military's Airstrikes that Killed Civilians in Tlanglo Village, Thantlang Township, Chin State

Indianapolis, Indiana, USA: On Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 3:00pm (Myanmar Time), the Burmese military attacked Tanglo village in Thantlang Township, Chin State, Myanmar with heavy airstrikes. This brutal attack reportedly killed 2 innocent civilians, critically wounded 4 villagers (including 2 children), and destroyed at least 17 houses. This callous attack is a direct violation of human rights and crime against humanity.

We, the Chin Baptist Churches of the United States of America (CBCUSA):

  1. Strongly condemn the Burmese junta's inhumane attack on our Chin innocent civilians.
  2. Call for President Biden and his administration along with the US Congress to condemn and take decisive actions against Gen. Min Aung Hlaing and his military regime, to hold them accountable for their barbaric attack on the Chin civilians.
  3. Urge the UN Security Council, ASEAN, and international community to put more pressure on and take urgent action against Gen. Min Aung Hlaing and his military regime in accordance with international law for committing atrocities such as this attack and crimes against humanity.
  4. Call for our Chin people around the world to encourage one another in a critical time such as this and stand together with courage to fight against the fascist Burmese military.

We stand firmly with our people during this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, loved ones of the victims of Tanglo village. May our God bring them comfort and the courage to stand strong as they are mourning with anger and agony for their love ones.
